On Monday I wrote concerning Rev. Gary Weems, reporting the cable snapping of the elevator in which he was riding. Within the last hour, I received an update from those who have been with him at the hospital.
He appears to have no internal injuries, although at one point yesterday, his kidneys began to fail. The doctors were able to reverse that trend, and in that regard, today, he appears to be in satisfactory condition. Both his ankles are broken, and both feet are shattered. There is so much swelling that, at this point, surgeons are not able to operate. When he further stablizes, he will go home, wait for the swelling to recede, then he will be readmitted to the hospital for all the surgeries he will need.
Please continue to pray for Rev. Weems, for his family and for his church.
EDIT: It has just come to my attention that Rev. Jack Yonts, II, is also critically ill. I’ve created a link to his site here. Let us add him to our prayer list.

Rev. Gary Weems has gone home from the hospital. From my understanding of reports, the shattering of his bones is so extreme that in the words of the surgeon, if we would try to operate now, the bones would just fall out. It is the nature of bones to heal, so over the next few weeks they will allow the bones to mend in their broken condition. When enough mending has taken place so that the bones are reconnected, they will then operate to bring about as much correction as is possible. He is in extreme need of prayer–has episodes of shivering and apprehension.
(I hope I am accurately depicting this medical condition, prognosis, and plan. I have no medical background, and I know lay people often misunderstand such things, but this is what I believe was relayed to me.)
The city of Terrell, private companies and other entities have rallied around their needs, providing gifts of money and services. The family is very grateful for these blessings.

WOW…What a surprise to hear from you, Pastor & I talk about you many times. Please look us up as we’d love to talk to you in person. We will never forget ” HAPPY STEAK” were God & My husband found you. He is walking with a limp, but walking! We are so grateful to God. Thanks for all your prayers.

hello sis. weems. i was so shocked to hear about the accident to brother weems. i went to visit your mom earlier this year but she said nothing about it. brother weems is a strong man with a stronger family. he will be up and about before long. tell him there are lost souls to saved and he has the knack to find them. (remember happy steak?) im so glad you and brother weems found me i think about you guys all the time and miss you.. take care and God

I just heard about Bro. Weems’ accident. I will be praying as I know my family will also be. I want to share a short something with you.
I know that in your eyes your husband is everthing to you but I want to tell you that to our family he is an awesome man of God and we love and appreciate him more than he could ever know.
16 yrs., ago, May 22, my little brother was involved in a tragic accident that left him with major head injuries. Bro. Weems was with us the very night they brought David in until the day they released him. He spent many hours with our family praying, talking and even though he is a man of God he became our Friend..
As you stated, God is not finished with him yet and everyone that knows him believes that whole heartedly. Please let him know that the Hector Family is praying and that we love and appreciate him.
There is not a whole lot that David remembers about the accident but he does remember Bro. Weems.
He is now working for the City of Ceres, and you would never know that he injuries were so severe. We DO serve and awesome God.

I am the wife of Pastor Gary Weems, I personally want to THANK each of you for your prayers during this tragedy, He had surgery Tuesday March 4th, Dr. Lais done a wonderful job in repairing Garys feet, they both were shattered, He put stainless steele and screws! My husband is home now,He cannot get up for two weeks,and will start to walk again in three months! We give God all the praise that he spared His life, We know God is not finished with Him! Continue to pray for Him, He is in Awesome spirits and while flat on his back,He is on the computer,finding New Church plans to build God a church in Terrell! I don’t have space enough to report all the miracles that have come from this TGBTG!

Hello, Ms. Buxton, I will also pray for this man’s healing and health.
It may be that I know him, went to school briefly with him, in Poteau Oklahoma. The Gary Weems I knew in the 1970s was the son of the Nazarene Pastor there.
I wonder if this is the same old friend?
