Buddy Calls 911…with His Paw.

The man had taught Buddy how to make a 911 call, and when the man began having a seizure–the result of a head injury–Buddy remembered the lessons and proficiently called 911. Interesting thing is: Buddy is a dog–a German Shepherd dog.

On the recorded 911 call Wednesday, Buddy is heard whimpering and barking after the somewhat confused dispatcher answers the phone and repeatedly asks if the caller needs help.

“Hello, this is 911. Hello … Can you hear me? Is there somebody there you can give the phone to,” says the dispatcher, Chris Scott.

“It’s pretty incredible,” said Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark. “Even the veteran dispatchers — they haven’t heard of anything like this.”

Fox news

From the Michigan based Paws with a Cause, Mr. Stainaker adopted eight-week-old Buddy and subsequently trained him to press programmed buttons that summon a 911 operator. Paws with a Cause trains dogs to assist persons with disabilities.

Within the Scottsdale, AZ. 911 system, Mr. Stainaker’s address is flagged with a notation that an assistance dog may dial for help when the owner is incapacitated.

Kudos to Buddy, the German Shepherd who learned well his lessons, and who may have saved his master’s life.
