According to Andrew DeMillo of the Associated Press, toddlers who live in the state of Arkansas can no longer be married. Guess they’ll have to dash off to Missouri to find a preacher. Seems a law passed last year mistakenly allowed children of any age to be married, as long as it was with parental consent.
Rep. Will Bond, the sponsor of the botched 2007 law and its correction, apologized for the error and asked his colleagues to “throw me a rope and bail me out here.”
The state has been embarrassed about the mistaken wording of the law, and a few days ago, Governor Mike Beebe signed a measure that would correct the problem.
Sorry babies. The honeymoon must be delayed.
