The Little Red Hen and Free Bread

The little red hen called all of her liberal neighbors together and
said, ‘If we plant this wheat, we shall have bread to eat. Who will
help me plant it?’

‘Not I,’ said the cow.

‘Not I,’ said the duck.

‘Not I,’ said the pig.

‘Not I,’ said the goose.

‘Then I will do it by myself,’ said the little red hen, and so she
did.   The wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain.

‘Who will help me reap my wheat?’ asked the little red hen.

‘Not I,’ said the duck.

‘Out of my classification,’ said the pig.

‘I’d lose my seniority,’ said the cow.

‘I’d lose my unemployment compensation,’ said the goose.

‘Then I will do it by myself,’ said the little red hen, and so she did.

At last it came time to bake the bread.   ‘Who will help me bake the
bread?’ asked the little red hen.

‘That would be overtime for me,’ said the cow.

‘I’d lose my welfare benefits,’ said the duck.

‘I’m a dropout and never learned how,’ said the pig.

‘If I’m to be the only helper, that’s discrimination,’ said the goose.

‘Then I will do it by myself,’ said the little red hen.

She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to
see.  They wanted some and, imagesin fact, demanded a share. But the little
red hen said, ‘No, I shall eat all five loaves.’

‘Excess profits!’ cried the Pelosi cow.

‘Capitalist leech!’ screamed the Boxer duck.

‘I demand equal rights!’ yelled the Jackson goose.

The Kennedy pig just grunted in disdain.

And they all painted ‘Unfair!’ picket signs and marched around and
around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

Then the leftist farmer came. He said to the little red hen, ‘You
must not be so greedy.’

‘But I earned the bread,’ said the little red hen.
‘Exactly,’ said the farmer. ‘That is what makes our free enterprise
system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he
wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive
workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy
and idle.’

And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen
who smiled and clucked, ‘I am grateful, for now I truly understand.’

But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again
baked bread because she joined the ‘party’ and got her bread free. And
all the liberals smiled.  Fairness and compassionate equality had been
established.  Individual initiative had died, but nobody noticed;
perhaps no one cared…so long as there was free bread that ‘the rich’
were paying for.

Global Warming…Chilling Danger

I’m thinking of a particular dear and long-standing friend of Jerry’s and mine whose bent in philosophy, politics and religion is in the same direction as ours, but who, through the years, has demonstrated a tendency toward extreme right-wing publications that hinted (or downright smacked) of conspiracy theories, and that alluded to devious, wide-spread undermining of the United States of America. Many times I listened to his reports, but always with reservations about some of the conclusions.

It both frightens and angers me to think of my beloved country ever falling into the hands of those who wish the demise of the United States of America. Perhaps it is my positive nature, and what seems to be inbred naivete–for despite my advancing years, I am occasionally forced to recognize that, yet again, I have been naive–perhaps it is these traits that make it difficult for me to comprehend that indeed it is possible (likely?) that America is being undermined, and that the principles of our great country–the greatest by far on this earth–are being compromised. Yet, blazing signals and ill-disguised clues abound.

Prominent in this mix is the issue of Global Warming. For many months now I have struggled to understand how such a physical, scientific, earthy issue could be partisan, while observing that to be clearly so. Exceptions abound, I am sure, but predominantly it is those of liberal mind-set who believe global warming is caused by man’s influence on the earth, while we conservatives believe that not to be the case. How can that be, I have wondered. What is there about Global Warming that politically divides America (and other areas of the world)?

It is chilling, but worthwhile to consider, the issue that is raised in this video by Christopher Monckton. Speaking at the Minnesota Free Market Institute a few days ago Mr. Monckton said that within the climate treaty that Obama is so willing to sign, the ceding of our sovereignty awaits. A global government will be established that will be run of course by the U.N.; the scary part of all of this? Once Obama signs the climate treaty and if the Senate were to ratify that treaty, that treaty by virtue of Article 6 of the Constitution, would effectively trump the Constitution.

Christopher Walter Monckton, 3rd Viscount Monckton of Brenchley (born 14 February 1952) is a British politician, business consultant, policy adviser, writer, columnist, inventor and hereditary peer. He served as an advisor to Margaret Thatcher‘s policy unit in the 1980s and invented the Eternity puzzle at the end of the 1990s. More recently, he has attracted controversy for his public opposition to the mainstream scientific consensus on global warming. He also announced a sequel to his original puzzle called Eternity II in 2007, and it is still unsolved.

From Wikipedia

A few days ago, concerning another subject,  I scurried about in my mind about the difficulty, yet the wisdom and authenticity, that come about when a person can say, “I was wrong about that.” America, let us look closely at what is transpiring about us, let us listen, and be ever fierce guardians of godliness and of liberty. Let us lay aside preconceived notions and opinions if such can be seen as blocking full illumination of the truth.

Is Lord Monckton right? Or is this of extreme, edgy, far right thinking into which my dear friend has engaged for years? I don’t know. I hope Lord Monckton is wrong, but let us not be ignorant nor allow ourselves to be blindsided in such a crucial matter. If you can find the time, please listen to the entire tape which is more than an hour long, but clearly debunks the man-made Global Warming theory. I’m eager to know your thinking.

Alice in Wonderland and President Obama, Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize

The book called Alice in Wonderland was thought by some to be so strange, that in China in 1931 the book was banned. and1book22jpg30The Governor of Hunan Province made such a declaration on the grounds that “animals should not use human language” and that it was “disastrous to put animals and human beings on the same level.”

This present world is so strange, that some days I wake up and think I must be deep underground, having curiously slipped down a rabbit hole: Absolutely mad people–hatters and otherwise–are running about. The earth is amuck.

President Barack Hussein Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. What? Say that again. Surely, surely you jest.

I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night? Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I’m not the same, the next question is ‘Who in the world am I?’ Ah, that’s the great puzzle!

The Cat
We’re all mad here.

The Duchess
Take care of the sense, and the sounds will take care of themselves.

The Mock Turtle
Reeling and Writhing, of course, to begin with, and then the different branches of arithmetic — Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision.

The Mock Turtle
Well, I never heard it before, but it sounds uncommon nonsense.

I don’t believe there’s an atom of meaning in it.

The Queen
Sentence first — verdict afterwards.

You’re nothing but a pack of cards!

I think I should understand that better, if I had it written down: but I can’t quite follow it as you say it.

The Duchess
That’s nothing to what I could say if I chose.

The Queen
Now, I give you fair warning, either you or your head must be off, and that in about half no time! Take your choice!

If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?

It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

Tea Parties

I like tea. Strong, honest, clear, sweet tea. I also like parties. Hope you like them too. Keep drinking tea. Keep throwing parties. It’s working!

Now you recognize of course that this beautiful image does not represent the kinds of tea parties to which I refer. This picture was taken by my very talented friend Jared Alvarez on the occasion of his daughter’s 5th birthday party. Take a look at his work, although I didn’t see these pictures included there.

Bristling, We’re Throwing Tea Parties and Rendezvous in Town Halls

The weight of this crisis will not determine the destiny of this nation.  The answers to our problems don’t lie beyond our reach.  They exist in our laboratories and universities; in our fields and our factories; in the imaginations of our entrepreneurs and the pride of the hardest-working people on Earth.  Those qualities that have made America the greatest force of progress and prosperity in human history we still possess in ample measure.  What is required now is for this country to pull together, confront boldly the challenges we face, and take responsibility for our future once more.

Remarks of President Barack Obama – As Prepared for Delivery
Address to Joint Session of Congress
Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Well said were those words of President Barack Obama, but, as the weeks and months have passed, our president says he really doesn’t want to hear from everybody after all, and that some should just shut up and get out of the way (a revealing of his haughty and imperial mind-set.) Such supreme arrogance and ill-will as demonstrated here by our president, though, is not long appreciated, nor likely to be ignored.

And so we’ve come to our senses; we have gone for Tea Parties and for lively Town Hall Meetings. We have determined to protect our country and our rights and our dear and precious constitution.

When ordinary citizens understand they are being played for fools, they bristle.

Charles Krauthammer wisely notes some of the the actions and attitudes of President Obama, his supporters and his party…even noting the appellation of mob to some who disagree.

…Obama unveiled his plans for a grand makeover of the American system, animating that vision by enacting measure after measure that greatly enlarged state power, government spending and national debt. Not surprisingly, these measures engendered powerful popular skepticism that burst into tea-party town-hall resistance.

Obama’s reaction to that resistance made things worse. Obama fancies himself tribune of the people, spokesman for the grass roots, harbinger of a new kind of politics from below that would upset the established lobbyist special-interest order of Washington. Yet faced with protests from a real grass-roots movement, his party and his supporters called it a mob — misinformed, misled, irrational, angry, unhinged, bordering on racist. All this while the administration was cutting backroom deals with every manner of special interest — from drug companies to auto unions to doctors — in which favors worth billions were quietly and opaquely exchanged.

And because Americans are wise, and don’t prefer to be bullied or belittled, Rasmussen is able to  report on September 5, 2009:

Saturday shows that 29% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -9

Today I’m shouting out for Tea Parties. I’m shouting out for wise and courageous words to be spoken in Town Hall Meetings; words that will reveal we are not unhinged, not misinformed, not misled, not racist, not ignorant louts…and that we will not roll over and let our country be ruined. Some of us are angry; angry at what’s happening here…and that’s okay. The Bible, our foundation, our base says in Ephesians, “Be angry and sin not.”

Solitaire and Ballgames in Convening House: The Government Can!

Take note Connecticut; these are your leaders in action. Wonder how many other legislative bodies would exhibit the same behavior were cameras in the right places.

House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk, far right, speaks while colleagues play solitaire on their computers as the House convenes to vote on a new budget for the fiscal year in the Capitol on Monday [AP Photo/Jessica Hill]
The Associated Press picture has appeared in any number of venues, and it shows two lawmakers sitting in the back row of the historic Hall of the House in Hartford during the lengthy debate over the two-year, $37 billion state budget.
On the left is Rep. Barbara Lambert, a freshman Democrat from Milford who won her first legislative election in November 2008. She replaced longtime Milford Democrat James Amann, who ended his legislative career as the House Speaker and is now running for governor against Republican M. Jodi Rell.
Lambert is playing spider solitaire in the photo, while Rep. Jack F. Hennessy, a Bridgeport Democrat who has served in Hartford since 2005, is playing regular solitaire. They both voted in favor of the Democratic-written budget, while Cafero voted against it.
During the long debates at the state Capitol, legislators often work on their laptop computers – as seen in the photograph. Sometimes they are answering e-mails from constituents, while other times they are researching important information on pending bills. Other times, they are playing solitaire.
When asked Tuesday about the photo by Capitol Watch, Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell laughed and said, “I think if they’d spend less time playing computer games and more time looking for spending cuts, then we would have been out of here a lot sooner.”
Republican Tom Foley, who is running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Democrat Christopher J. Dodd, said, “I was disheartened to see a Hartford Courant front page photo showing members of our Democratically-controlled legislature playing solitaire on their computers while debate was occurring on a new state budget that raises taxes and contains no net reduction in spending. This is not a time for the Democrats who control our legislature to be playing games with Connecticut’s future. Our elected officials need to put away their computer toys and help working people by lowering taxes and keeping government spending down.”
From Capitol Watch
Many people say our government has become a laughing stock. Is that true? Or is it even more ominous?
Hey, this is a perfect spot to show you this delightful video.

Racism In Tennessee

Her name is Sherri Goforth and she has been working for the Tennessee State Senate for 20 years, reportedly with a stellar record. But if this report is accurate–and I have no reason to believe otherwise–she has acted in an irresponsible and disrespectful manner. It seems she sent an e-mail featuring a picture of two cartoon eyeballs set against a black background and meant to depict President Obama. The image featured a succession of presidents in dignified and stately positions until the final picture of Obama. She has acknowledged her bad decision and apologized for the offensive nature of the e-mail.

Awful. I wish these things did not happen.

ABC from Inside the White House? Terrifiying

Can this possibly be true? I do not understand what is going on in our country! Government owned banks, automotive plants…and now news stations run from inside the White House? What gives with this? Ever watchful must we be. This is our country with freedom and glory purchased at bloody price. We must not sit in uncomprehending complacence as degradative change snatches away our liberties and silences our voices. If this report is true, it is terrifying.

Tue Jun 16 2009 08:45:10 ET

On the night of June 24, the media and government become one, when ABC turns its programming over to President Obama and White House officials to push government run health care -- a move that has ignited an ethical firestorm!

Highlights on the agenda:

ABCNEWS anchor Charlie Gibson will deliver WORLD NEWS from the Blue Room of the White House.

The network plans a primetime special -- 'Prescription for America' -- originating from the East Room, exclude opposing voices on the debate.

Late Monday night, Republican National Committee Chief of Staff Ken McKay fired off a complaint to the head of ABCNEWS:

Dear Mr. Westin:

As the national debate on health care reform intensifies, I am deeply concerned and disappointed with ABC's astonishing decision to exclude opposing voices on this critical issue on June 24, 2009. Next Wednesday, ABC News will air a primetime health care reform “town hall” at the White House with President Barack Obama. In addition, according to an ABC News report, GOOD MORNING AMERICA, WORLD NEWS, NIGHTLINE and ABC’s web news “will all feature special programming on the president’s health care agenda.” This does not include the promotion, over the next 9 days, the president’s health care agenda will receive on ABC News programming.

Today, the Republican National Committee requested an opportunity to add our Party's views to those of the President's to ensure that all sides of the health care reform debate are presented. Our request was rejected. I believe that the President should have the ability to speak directly to the America people. However, I find it outrageous that ABC would prohibit our Party's opposing thoughts and ideas from this national debate, which affects millions of ABC viewers.

In the absence of opposition, I am concerned this event will become a glorified infomercial to promote the Democrat agenda. If that is the case, this primetime infomercial should be paid for out of the DNC coffers. President Obama does not hold a monopoly on health care reform ideas or on free airtime. The President has stated time and time again that he wants a bipartisan debate. Therefore, the Republican Party should be included in this primetime event, or the DNC should pay for your airtime.

She Didn’t Mean To Say That

President Obama knows what she meant. How he came about such knowledge, we are not told.

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Friday personally sought to deflect criticism of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, who finds herself under intensifying scrutiny for saying in 2001 that a female Hispanic judge would often reach a better decision than a white male judge. “I’m sure she would have restated it,” Obama flatly told NBC News, without indicating how he knew that.

She said in 2001: “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” The remark was in the context her saying that “our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging.”

Source: Yahoo News

I’ve read that line several times, and to my thought, the only way to alleviate the current criticism of that racist statement would be for Sonia Sotomayor to renounce the opinion…not merely find a way to restate it. For the criticism lies not with the structure of the sentence, nor has clumsiness of word been noted; rather the uproar is over the racial tones of the assertion. For an honest Supreme Court Judge will strive to set aside his biases; disregard his ethnicity, his values, his gender, his preferences, attempting instead to interpret our constitution with all sagacity and with intense care.

But our president knows she did not mean what she said, although the statement was taken directly from a prepared lecture she presented at the law school of the University of California. It was not an “off-the-cuff” remark. Wonder how he knows. Is it possible he doesn’t know?
