Steve Richardson, the writer of moving, elegant music, has escaped the tether of earth, winging to that other world. It is the mysterious way of death.
Beautifully sung here by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir is his best-known work, Daystar.
I did not realize until reading about him this morning that he also wrote the moving expression that follows here. These words are my heart. Often I have sung them . . . and wept, as I do
JUST TO WALK WITH HIM
Just to walk with Him means everything to me,
Just to know He’s near, His hands are leading me,
Though the world pass me by
Go their way and let me be
Just to walk with Him means everything to me.
May the passage of Brother Richardson from this world to the other mark for us who have yet to make the transition how fleeting and inconsequential are this world’s trinkets and treasures. Surely this morning, Brother Richardson sings as never before…Just to walk with Him means everything to me.
Rest in peace with Jesus.
Noon 1/7/12 Edit
Just found this video of Brother Richardson and others singing, Daystar. I wept again as I watched it. So beautiful. So moving. so important.

What I loved most about Steve Richardson was how humble and unassuming he was. He was a song writer, a great musician, a great person, a great christian.

In 1967 Steve was the first Apostolic that witnessed to me the truth of the Great God in Christ. He was my friend through my college years at I.U. He was surely one of the most gifted musicians of the gospel genre. He also had a very keen since of humor….he will be sorely missed

I did not know that Bro. Richardson wrote “Just to Walk with Him.” I was searching for it this morning, to share with a friend, and found your blog. I see you on the pastor’s wives groups, Facebook, and here you are again! Thanks for being a blessing to all you touch!

A great tribute to a great musician and songwriter. Now Steve knows the meaning of his song, “Just to Know.”
