Sisters

Sister’s Back, originally uploaded by Shirley Buxton.

During the couple of weeks that Chloe was with us, I think she missed her baby sister more than anyone. And…from the reaction when we got together Friday evening in Yuma to “hand off” Chloe to her family, Ella-Claire feels the same way about big sister. She clung to Chloe, laying down her head on Chloe’s shoulder, and staying tightly connected to her most of the two hours we were together.

I had one sister. She died a few years back…and now I have none.

Still full of life and ready to be on the move, Shirley at 84 years old feels blessed to have lots of energy and to be full of optimism. She was married to Jerry for 63 years, and grieves yet at his death in August of 2019. They have 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren...all beautiful and highly intelligent--of course. :)

Sis. B…. do it! The rest will come later! The grandkids will never forget you, and more importantly…. they have an ideal to live up to! From one tired grandparent to another!

Beautiful girls! Chloe reminds me of Steve and Ella-Claire of Michael when they were young. You can certainly tell they are Buxtons. There is simply nothing like grandchildren. I just had my two oldest, 17 and 15 along with a friend of theirs for a few days and it was so enjoyable. I count it a privilege when they become teens and still want to spend time with me. We have this tradition of going every summer to Clayfish Bisque and painting something to keep as a memory of our time together. Actually the girls are getting quite good-can’t say the same for me. They usually get a good laugh at my work. Love, Love, Love your posts. Nita

Thanks for your comments, Nita. Every grandparent I know is gaga over their youngsters; I’m certainly included, and like you, continue to enjoy being with them. In September at our home in Crestline, I’m watching all five of Andrew’s while he and Shawnna go for a week to Hawaii. Chloe is already thinking Rebecca’s Nathaniel should be there too. It will be a blast!…At the end of the week, I will be tired, I assure you….although it is much easier having them all now as they are older. As you can imagine, Chloe pretty much takes care of Ella-Claire by herself.

We are in the early stages of planning a big trip in our motor home next year, (2010) taking in the general conference in Houston. Sure hope we can spend some time with you then. Love you so much.

Thank you Shirley for sharing your time with Chloe with all of us.

You’re welcome, Greg. It’s been a privilege–both to live it and to talk about it.

It’s good to see that Chloe and Ella Claire are close to each other. God has certainly blessed me with two wonderful sisters whom I love very much. Sisters in Christ are great too!

Carol, I’m glad you brought up the issue of sisters in Christ, for indeed they are precious and dear in our lives. Glad I have many of them.

Regardless of the age difference, Chloe and Ella will always be the best of friends. I always love watching Chloe “mother” little Ella-Claire. I had always wished my mom had “given” me sisters closer to me in age. Erica is 8 years younger and Kathryn is 16 years younger. As we grew older we grew closer. There is nothing quite like a sister. Oh, how I love my sisters!!!!! “She is your mirror, shining back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark. She is your teacher, your defense attorney, your personal press agent, even your shrink. Some days, she’s the reason you wish you were an only child.” ~Barbara Alpert

Love you Sis. Buxton!

Sharon, good to hear from you. What a beautiful short essay this is.
