Thievery at Dillard’s

A few hours ago, I came in from a thieving spree; well, at least that is the essence of language used by the lady next to me, and she was involved in the same activity as was I, for, side-by-side, we pawed (in ladylike ways, of course) through the merchandise.   We were After-Christmas-Shopping and the deals we unraveled were of such degree that the elegantly dressed lady leaned a little toward me, and quite out of the corner of her fine mouth spoke conspiratorially, “It’s like stealing, isn’t it.” She looked straight ahead as she spoke. I nodded, muttered a few words of agreement, and now glanced about to see if possibly we were being observed.

Dillard’s was the crime scene. I grieve for you if you don’t have a Dillard’s in your life, for of all the department stores encountered in my now elongated years, I consider Dillard’s to be the paragon of such places. Your understanding of my passion for this store will be enhanced by knowing that in my home place of Southern California, where I have lived most of my adult life, and where all my four children were born and reared, there is no Dillard’s, and yet I judge them the epitome of fine stores. I rate them above Macy’s, The May Company (did they merge with somebody?) and even Nordstrom’s. A few months ago when they announced the building of the new mall here in Lake Havasu, I was ecstatic to hear that Dillard’s would be one of the anchor stores.

I defend my choice by telling you this; Dillard’s puts on the the finest clearance sales of any department store I know. Their stores are beautiful to start with, showing lovely clothes and fine housewares…but it surely is their sales that set them apart. Often they advertise prices at 50 or 75% off the already discounted price. dsc_0049Today was such a case, and I bought this stash–four pairs of DKNY tights, eleven pairs of Hanes nylons, and four HUE slippers for the grand sum of $36.94.

Never before had I considered indulging in Dillard’s fine sales as a form of thievery, but ever since that lady spoke in those hushed tones today, mentioning the word stealing, I’ve kept my ears tuned for a knock on the door. So far, everything seems okay, though. The mall is less than two miles from our rig here, so if there’s anything you want me to pick up, just give me a call. 🙂

I was googling for the number for the Dillard’s clearance store here in Phoenix and this post was one of the results. Made me laugh. 🙂

I’m heading out to do some “thieving” at Dillard’s NOW!

The only time I go is when they are having a sale… keeps me out of trouble, because I ALWAYS see things I want. I missed the New Year’s 50% off sale due to a terrible ear infection, still recovering. Trust me, I know I missed out on some bargains, but I did save a lot of money by being home in bed :).

Sure do miss you both, and hate it that we have not made it to see you both. Love you dearly.

Strange thing, isn’t it Aisha, that saving money by missing a sale, is not quite as much fun as saving money by buying things. 🙂 Love you too, and sorry we couldn’t get together at Christmas. Hope your ear infection continues to clear

Now my “Shoequeen” (Crystal) would agree with you and “shop ’til she dropped” if we went to Dillard’s.
Now, thanks to Jana, there is hope 🙂 If I understand right – there is one near Lancaster.

It’s actually in Palmdale: 1255 W. Rancho Vista Blvd.

Happy days!

I’ve only been to a Dillard’s once when we were down in southern California several years ago. As far as earthly joys go, few can compare to the jubilee of finding a good deal. I got my thrill this Christmas season when I was able to purchase 2 nice outfits for my nephew at JC Penny for less than $6. I was ho ho ho-ing all the way home.

Time to ho-ho when such a deal falls into the grasp of an astute shopper.

Happy days this year…and always.

Sis. Buxton,

I love Dillards and grew up shopping their sales. It is good quality stuff, that when it goes on sale, basically sales for what seems to amount to thievery. More than once we’ve shopped their after christmas sales, then added up our purchase’s original price compared to the sale price. Seeing the savings is fun, fun!

You struck a deal! I’m hitting them up today, in fact may drive to Wichita to hit the big ones. 🙂 Thank God for Dillards, they kept this pk looking nice for church camps, conferences, youth events, and more for really cheap prices. Like just as cheap or cheaper than ROSS at times (and even Good Will) and usually for nicer items. 🙂 ❤ Dillards!!!

Anna

Love you, Anna, and your great shopping spirit. Trust this year is a great one for you.

We have a Dillard’s at the local mall, and I am not impressed. Most of what they sell ought to cost 75% of what they change for it. So a sale is just bringing prices down to reality. Believe me, I’d ship you the whole store if I had that power. LOL

Now, Helen, you’re about to get me in trouble. I can’t possibly have two Dillard’s around me here.
Hope 2009 is a tremendous year for you and yours.

We have a Dillards store but I haven’t been in it. I will have to check it out. You really got a great deal.

Lily, you’ll have fun at a Dillard’s sale. I wish you a wonderful new year.

Well Sis. Buxton, we don’t have Macys or Nordstroms out here in Mississippi but we do have Dillards. I have to drive to Hattiesburg (30 miles) but I do really like Dillards. Some people think Dillards is a hoky store compaired to Nordstroms but I like the variety and lower prices. I did not know they had such big sales. This means I have to make a trip there today. Thanks for the tip.

Hi, Esther. I’m not sure why anyone would consider Dillard’s a “hoky” store, unless it is because in addition to their high end products, they also carry a more reasonable line of merchandise. Anyway, get yourself dressed and over to Hattiesburg. You’ll be glad.

A blessed and joyous year to you and Bill.

No Dillads over here in Australia – but we have Myers, David Jones, Big W, Target and K Mart.

Happy New Year Shirley, looking forwards to another year of having my thoughts provoked, my theology challenged and my heart refreshed by your words and photos

Kudos and a Happy New Year to you Shirley

Peace

Greg

Hello, Greg. May this year be a blessed one for you and your family.

Greg, the mall that houses Dillard’s also has a Super Wal-Mart–a huge place. Now that’s a great combination. 🙂

There have been a few times I have come by a Dillard’s and I really liked the variety they had to offer young girls. I can only wish for a Dillard’s near me. I believe there are two in California but one is about three hours north and the other about 2 hours south-east.

Hi, Jana. I didn’t know about the northern California Dillard’s, but was aware of the one near Lancaster, I think. They really are fine stores.

Love you and hope you and your family have a wonderful new year.

oo, you go mom. Wish I were there to shop with you; hope you had a blast. Happy New Year!

Love to you and dad,
Rebecca

Rebecca, remember those days when with you and your older brothers we would spend the day after Christmas shopping at South Coast Plaza. Now, that’s a fine place, even though they don’t have a Dillard’s.

My shopping yesterday would have been perfect had you been with me. Love you.

I stumbled upon Dillards clearance sale by accident today. I went there to return a pair of Uggs that my mom had given to me for christmas. A 50% off the lowest ticketed price sign almost smacked me in the forhead at the front door. I was in heaven, but at the same time, I too felt like athief. The prices were absolutely outstanding. I can’t wait till they lower their prices again! Who knows, maybe it will be 75% off their lowest prices next time. Well a girl can hope! Can’t she?………….lol:)
