Worry

EDIT: Thursday, October 9

After reading Helen’s response (comment number 19) that only Republicans call Senator Obama Messiah, I did a one-minute search on Google. The first site I found was this one named Is Barack Obama the Messiah?–definitely not written by a Republican. I was astounded, as no doubt you will be also. Consider these statements on that site:

Many even see in Obama a messiah-like figure, a great soul, and some affectionately call him Mahatma Obama.” Dinesh Sharma

“Does it not feel as if some special hand is guiding Obama on his journey, I mean, as he has said, the utter improbability of it all?”

Daily Kos

“He communicates God-like energy…”

Steve Davis (Charleston, SC)

“Not just an ordinary human being but indeed an Advanced Soul”

Commentator @ Chicago Sun Times

“I’ll do whatever he says to do. I’ll collect paper cups off the ground to make his pathway clear.”

Halle Berry

Again, I say, I am glad I have put my trust in God. One more thing…I urge extreme caution and prayer as we vote on November 4th. We best look beyond parties, and do all we can to know the hearts and minds of both presidential candidates.

____________

I am calming myself because I have put my faith in God, but if I had hope only in this world, fear would threaten to overwhelm me.

Just now, I read these current news items:

Global Poll Finds Obama Preferred in All Countries But U.S.

A new global poll of 17 countries finds a huge preference for Barack Obama over John McCain in the presidential election in 16 of those countries. In the 17th country — the U.S. — McCain was edging out Obama.

FOXNews.com

and then this:

A middle school teacher in Missouri was suspended  Monday for putting a video on YouTube of his students chanting lines from Barack Obama speeches and wearing military fatigues.

The video, called “Obama Youth — Junior Fraternity Regiment,” was posted by a YouTube user named “keepitwildtv” on Oct. 2. The school learned the video was on the Internet and took action against the teacher Monday morning.

The entire article here.

And this one, if you please.

At one point today, our market was down a frightening 800 points. There has been a late-afternoon rally, and it appears the market will end 369 points down. Consider this fall in the market that has slapped us under 10,000 has come after that shockingly large bailout of last week: The socialist move that was supposed to cure this mess.

My trust and hope is in God.

I still have hope that you will come to your senses Helen. I will not argue with you, but I will pray for you and your apparent lack of good taste and judgment.

Shirley, Please accept my apology for continuing this discussion on you blog.

If you two (Dean and Darlah), who have opinions but no blogs, wish to continue a discussion about words rather than ideas, please take it to my blog, where you may have an opinion, as long as you don’t call people names.

But Helen….. where does the joke and your good taste separate? Many people find profanity repulsive. Especially if it includes profanity. While you may not have authored the offensive chart…. you allowed its staying on your blog. Guilty by association? Or guilty just by a lack of good taste??? Will you now need a adult only disclaimer at entering your site??

helenl: Guaranteed: If this amount of controvery surrounded John McCain or Sarah Palin, there would be no way I could vote Republican, even though I’m a big “C” conservative. I am not tied with chains to a certain party. Can you say the same?

helenl: Ever heard of “if the blind lead the blind, they’ll both fall into the ditch”? That’s what I think of whenever I see your responses. You continue to calmly bury your head in the sand with respect to Obama and the numerous reasons Americans have to be extremely concerned about this man. If you think that your “Messiah” is going to deliver you if he’s president, I’m afraid you are in for a very rude awakening. Expect to end up in the “ditch”.

The first role of the church is the Ultimate Concern, eternity. Saving a soul. Pulling someone from hell. Preaching ultimate hope and healing that comes only from a life given to God. With that, you can live under any political conditions, and still have hope.

Our opinions with regard to the role of government may vary… most on fiscal grounds, or national defense.

On social issues, there’s no gray line. Our faith worldview shares commonalities with many other religions, and detests things like redefining marriage, abortion, etc.. It amazes me how these positions are always branded as “evangelical”. The Catholic Church is one of the fiercest voices opposed to abortion. They aren’t “evangelical”, nor are they “fundamentalists”. One’s worldview is never muted at the ballot box, so with all due respect, Helen, neither will ours.

Shirley,

I have been thinking since yesterday of what I wanted to say to this post. The videos you shared are alarming, but there are a lot of Christians out there who are praying. God would have spared Sodom for ten righteous people, if I remember correctly. Surely there
re more than that who are praying in this great country of ours!

I will not vote for Obama because of his beliefs and his remarks against the Word of God, not because he is black. I wrote a newsletter about him titled “Beware the Pied Pipers are coming.” I already sent them out. If anyone wants a copy E-mail me at drrfwebb1@aol.com and give me your mailing address. and I will send you a copy.

(I highly recommend material Robert Webb has printed and distributed. His work is excellent. SJBuxton)

I noticed those school kids all had on blue T-shirts with the word HOPE acros the front. I believe if he gets elected he will reveal his secrets he has refused to reveal now.

But I am reminded of a song we sing in church

My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frane but wholly lean on Jesus name.

Sis. Buxton,

I disagree with Helen’s statement that your blog is more “Republican” than “Christian.” Since when is it un-Christian to express concern and share things that concern us and may severly impact our future? Human maybe but definitely not un-Christian.

It does not necessarily matter whether one is Republican or Democrat, but more so, how one is reacting to world events as a true Bible Believer. Taxes, Legislation, etc is important; however, before being a citizen of this great nation, I am foremost a follower of Christ. I believe the Bible in its entirety, not just the parts that suit me or soothe my intellectuality. I will not ever vote for someone who blatantly supports many things that the Bible stands against. In doing so, how does that make me a true bible believer? If I am going to be a believer of the Word of God, I want a nation that is founded on those same principles as found in it. This supercedes my political affiliation.

To be a christian, is not to be close mouthed and mute regarding what you believe in. Jesus was not always nice when he called them “Thieves” (Matt 21:12), “Generation of Vipers” (Matt 3:7,12:34, 23:33 and Luke 3:7), and “Hypocrites” (Matt 23:14), just to name a few. Did this make him less of a “Christian” or a”bad God?” How dare he make people feel convicted about the choices they were making! (tongue in cheek)

Being a Christian does not mean being weak about our convictions because we have to be politically correct. It means simply to speak the truth in love. Elections get folks wound up. Humanity is not perfect whether “christian” or not! A good Christian will keep their finger on the pulse of their nation because after all is not that a piece of “watching” for “His” appearing?

Keep sharing your heart!

Enjoyed the comments here. The clips were freaky. Perhaps acceptable if the children wanted to do a “artsy sketch” on politics on their own. Even then, the latter of the clips calls on Obama as “our Savior” in know unsubtle terms. Quite strange. There’s been a few guys I’ve voted for that I really liked, but never on the level of Messiah.

Shirley,

Please accept my apology for calling McCain a “boy.” It’s been about sixty years since he was a boy.

Lately your blog has sunk quite a bit from the “uplifting” articles you used to write. You don’t act “Christian” now, just “Republican.” That is not a compliment. I think it is sad. The title is “Worry,” and faith seems parenthetical.

No matter who wins on November 4, God is still on the throne.

Your apology is accepted, of course.

Your boy’s got history, too.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

Good morning, Helen.

I suppose you are referring to Senator McCain when you said “your boy,” and if so, I agree he does have history: Not all of his history reveals a perfect man. Then, of course, neither does mine…nor does that of anyone else I know.

Because of the nature of the writing of Wikipedia, it has been noted to have serious errors at times; in this case, though, as far as I can tell, it seems to be accurate in its concise report of the Keating Five. Senator McCain’s history as pertains to the Keating Five is: “Senators John Glenn and John McCain were cleared of having acted improperly but were criticized for having exercised “poor judgment”.

While I wish Senator McCain throughout his 72 years had never had a day in which he made an error in judgment and thus I could point to a perfect candidate, I am glad that connected with his name is that important statement: JOHN MCCAIN (was) CLEARED OF HAVING ACTED IMPROPERLY.
