Edit: Friday Morning Jayci has died.
With great compassion, several of you commented on Jayci’s story I wrote about a few days ago. She is the little girl, dying with cancer, who desperately wanted to see her daddy. But he was in prison, and the ruling had been handed down that he could not visit the child.
But yesterday, only for a few minutes, Jayci–seemingly against all odds–had a visit from her daddy.
Her father, Jason Yaeger, who has been locked up in a South Dakota federal prison on methamphetamine charges, was allowed to see his daughter for what may be the last time.
Jayci, who cannot speak, move or eat, could sense that her father was next to her and feel his touch, because she began breathing more heavily during his visit, the family told FOX News.
More here.
A video of Jayci is here.
Such sorrow and yearning, I can hardly imagine.

I am glad she got to see her father and agree he should be allowed there for her passing. He is not, from what we’ve been told, a dangerous man.

This is such a heart wrenching story. I’m thankful mercy was granted.

What a sad story. I found myself fighting off the tears until I read through the comments. It amazes me how moved we can be by words on a page.

Even so, the story remains pitifully sad.

I’m happy that Jayci got to experience her father’s presence. I agree with JWS that the authorities could grant him more time with her. John Hinkley now gets overnight visits to his parents, so why can’t this guy be there for his daughter’s final moments–for her sake. He has already served most of his sentence–more than some other people do.
I hope that this case forces people out there to think hard about the consequences of illegal activities.
I also hope it starts a dialogue on our inane drug laws and our entire legal system.

I’m sorry, but it’s just NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Her dying wish was to have her father with her when she crossed over. What a callous Warden, Judge, US Attorney, & Assistant US Attorney. They have no compassion for the child. I hope the Factor takes these heartless idiots to task.

I’m so glad her dad was allowed to visit her. It’s so sad. Anyone who has been a parent could not help but feel compassion and great sorrow over this situation. May God help them all.
