To Granny’s for Thanksgiving

Ella-Claire Buxton, originally uploaded by Shirley Buxton.

Meet Ella-Claire Buxton, who at nine-months-old just spent her first Thanksgiving at Granny and Pappy’s house. She tasted mashed potatoes and gravy and loves cinnamon roll frosting.

I think all of them will be chefs. When they scrambled into the house on Wednesday, yelping and shouting, I was making pies and immediately they took possession of the rolling pins.

Chefs Cole and Brady here.

My devotional blog is here.

Still full of life and ready to be on the move, Shirley at 84 years old feels blessed to have lots of energy and to be full of optimism. She was married to Jerry for 63 years, and grieves yet at his death in August of 2019. They have 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren...all beautiful and highly intelligent--of course. :)

Love those blue eyes on Ella Claire! I remember Mom having a whole day of baking here with her granddaughter Jen and her friend Kelsey a few years ago. They had a blast. Mom had bought them chef’s hats and aprons that the girls could decorate. Those are special times.

I’ve been blessed to have small grandchildren for so many years that I can’t even imagine holidays without them. The future looks bright too, for we still have babies in more than one family.

Of course, we’re getting into great-grandchildren now. Did you know I have 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren? It’s heavenly.

Love the pics!!!! She is beautiful!! Love Grannie’s little helpers!! Kids make the holidays so mcuh fun and special!! Thanks for sharing.

Hello, Esther-

I do wish you could have been with us also the last couple of days. It was such fun.

Oh, you’ll have plenty of patience. It does take longer to cook things with such helpers, but they’re such fun, and so sweet.

My other grandkids always liked to be with me as I cooked, but I don’t believe to the degree that Andrew and Shawnna’s do. They beg to cook…and set the table…and decorate…From plain paper, Chloe made place cards for our Thanksgiving meals. She fashioned Happy Thanksgiving signs and stuck them all around the house. It was delightful.

Everyone is home now. Talked to Andrew a few minutes ago.

Hope we get to see you sometime during the Christmas season. I know you’ll be busy with your own family, but maybe something will work out.

What a fun time you must have had. The pics are darling. I can’t wait until next month when I get to be the one giving hugs and kisses to the same little ones. And, I will make sure they get to help me in the kitchen too. Papa and I will get there on the 19th so they can come over to Jen’s and help me make goodies. Lord, help me to be patient. Love you lots………………

Good morning, CAROL and HELEN–

Yes, our days here in Crestline for Thanksgiving were wonderful. Everyone is gone now, Jerry and I are finishing up our own packing, and within the hour we will head back to Lake Havasu.

Hope both of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving also.
