Hail Power Shopping!

Not sure whether it can be detected by any known test, but if such were so, I believe my DNA would indicate a dominant bargain hunting gene. Southern California, where I have lived most of my adult life, is replete with fine discount stores–even discount malls, where every store offers its merchandise at slashed prices. When my children were home, the day after Christmas always found us at South Coast Plaza for splendid after Christmas sales. Jerry didn’t usually join us, for he isn’t a shopping gene carrier, although, when he does shop, he doesn’t mind a bargain or two.

I’m a bit surprised at myself, given my proclivity for bargain-shopping, that I haven’t utilized the internet more, for I’m convinced there are great buys to be found there. This morning, I came across what appears to be such excellent shopping material that I have bookmarked this source, and I certainly want to share it with you.

In the past 10 years, the internet has completely revolutionized the way we shop—so much so that there’s rarely a compelling reason to make purchases offline anymore. But the rise of online shopping has also given rise to an ocean of choice, and you want to make sure you’re getting the best deals available to you. If you’re a die-hard bargain shopper, you can spend tons of time looking for deals on the internet—and you can be very successful. But if you don’t have an abundance of time to dedicate to bargain hunting, you can still save buckets of cash by following just a few simple tips.

Several of my friends already do a great deal of shopping on the internet, and seem quite pleased with the results. If you are one of those who shop in this way, I’d like to hear from you. Do you have favorite places, has such shopping worked out for you, do clothes fit when you order them, have you had to return anything…and was that a great hassle? Let us know.

My devotional blog is here.

By Shirley Buxton

Still full of life and ready to be on the move, Shirley at 83 years old feels blessed to have lots of energy and to be full of optimism. She was married to Jerry for 63 years, and grieves yet at his death in August of 2019. They have 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren...all beautiful and highly intelligent--of course. :)

Shirley, the reason for the Espanol classes is I’ am at a hugh disadvantage in meetings where the language is shrictly Spanish. I have hired a professor who tutors me 3 times a week 2 hrs each class. A big challenge for me at my old age.
Any way lets try to get together on one of my trips back to the U.S.A. I usually fly from Santiago to Atlanta or Miami, but could fly to Arizonia and then to Pittsburgh.
Love you

JUNIOR, so sorry you didn’t get a dose of the shopping gene, but glad we retained a bit of it in the family for your daughter. Why the Spanish? Is it just because you are interested, or because of your business in Chile? Love you back.

DEB, I’m with you about trying on the clothes. Maybe a blouse or something like that, but for a nice dress or suit, I would worry about the fit. shoes are a problem for me too. Sometimes I have to try on several pair before I find comfortable ones. My feet are a bit on the wide side. (Do not tell anyone!)

I am glad to hear about people shopping via on-line. I do believe Jana is the queen of on-line shopping. LOL As for me, hmm, well, trying on clothes is a must. As far as shoes, I am sure if I allowed myself the indulgence, I would go broke.

Could not resist sending you a quick note to say I share Jerrys view on shopping. As far a I can determine all Forrest DNA shopping genes was passed on to my daughter (shop-a-holic) by passing me. However I have purchased a set of golf clubs for my grandson on line using a credit card without any problems.
Say hello to Jerry and would also love to see both of you. Ok have to run to my Spanish classes.
Love you

I love to internet shop and I love to physically shop. I LOVE TO SHOP, period! Any chance I get, everywhere I go, I look for a…shop. 😀 I blame my mom for this problem. (Love you, mom). I don’t always buy and I usually only spend what I have at the moment or I can pay off when the credit card bill comes. Interest will kill ya’. (Lesson taught by my husband).

Clothes and shoes I always physically shop for, never internet. I must try things on. But, like Karen, I shop a lot on the internet for gifts, books, CDs, flowers, coffee (Peet’s is delivered to me once every 3 weeks), etc.

I never worry about hackers getting my c.c.#. What’s the difference in using it in a restaurant where they can just write down the number in the back? Or, if ordering something on the phone, they get the # that way, too. There’s always a risk. Just use AMEX and they will take charges off that don’t belong to you without a fuss.

Some of my favorite sites are: (best prices for small appliances, etc.)

For gifts for people who live far from me, if I know what stores they like to shop in, I’ll just go to that store online and usually I can order a gift card from that store and send it directly to that person. They love it! 🙂

Sorry I wrote so much here. But…you asked. 🙂
Love you.

P.S. Karen, I’ve always wanted to do that Safeway delivery thing. Sounds like you like it. I might give it a try. The only thing I would not like is buying produce. Has that been a problem for you?

I enjoy shopping online. It is difficult to find time to drive to a mall, search for parking, and then not find what I want. Online, I find the things I want very quickly and “Voila” it is here in a few days. The shopping in our area has alot to be desired so I really enjoy finding the extraordinary things online. For instance, Bryn’s red and white polka dot shoes that you took a picture of, I found them online and they were shipped to me from London, England. There are several boutiques I shop at online and my all-time-fave is E-Bay. The feedback scores on E-Bay are what keeps it safe. I always use PayPal for my transactions and will not buy from anyone who has less than a 99% feedback score.

Sis. Buxton:

So far! All the shopping that I have done on the net is for my school books. I have found several sites where the price for the books are, a LOT, MUCH, A BOUNCE cheaper than the book stories.

After the books, I have not purchased much or very little at all.

My our Lord smile on your weekend;

I am in the toddler stage of Internet shopping, meaning I’ve been doing it now for about 3 or 4 years. I buy office supplies at work using the Internet. I even do Costco online and I have my groceries delivered via every two weeks. I just love that. It’s such a time-saver for me! I only have to handle the groceries once….when they deliver them and I put them away! I have sent gift baskets to others online, and that has worked well. I have sent gift cards to family online with no problems. I have bought clothes and shoes online, mainly from Chadwicks and Blair. I have not been brave enough yet thought to do e-bay!!! I love shopping and Barnes & Noble! I’ve gotten good deals on books and perfume. Yes, I could easily turn into a shop-a-holic! I love a good deal! But when you shop in person, it’s special too because you usually go with a friend or family member. And you usually do lunch. That is very wonderful! They both have their pros and cons I suppose.

Mom & I often shop the Internet (though mom does some actual “going-to-the-store”shopping too). There are some good bargains, but you do pay for conenience. Shipping charges can be kind of high. Mom does a lot of shopping via She’s bought clothes (that always seem to fit), and other merchandise that’s usually pretty cheap and not-bad quality. Never had any problems with credit card hackers. Most sites seem to be pretty secure.

Hi Sis. Buxton. No, I don’t shop on the web. I’m just a little apprehensive and putting my credit card out there for hackers to see. Not that anyone would get much from my limits. But, I enjoy going to malls and outlets and other places to actually see, feel, taste and (sometimes) smell things before buying. To me the actual going places and being with my daughters or friends make the shopping times fun and exciting. So, the web does not hold an interest to me. However, I have ordered a couple of things like shoes and jean skirts. But, have not been 100% pleased when the items arive.
