The Road to a Church in Lake Havasu Part II

Bible Study Ladies, originally uploaded by Shirley Buxton.

On April 3rd, the Tuesday before Easter, I held my first ladies Bible study in the recreation room of DJ’s RV park. I was delighted that seven women showed up, and we had a wonderful session. I’m teaching on Forgiveness, and this crucial subject touches everyone, of course.

I had met Layne, the second lady from the right, the day before when she and her husband pulled into the space beside ours. We had a spiritual connection that I am not able to describe for you. We cried and prayed together, and on their leaving exchanged cards so that we could stay in touch. It isn’t my imagination that God is doing a spectacular work here. When Layne and Norris left on Wednesday, she looked intently at me and said, “This has been an incredible 24 hours for us here in this RV park.”

At our first Easter service on Sunday we had a grand total of 29 people! Four of them were children, leaving of course 25 adults. We were ecstatic. Four of us are missing from this picture, but I wanted you to gaze on these beautiful people that God is working on here in this city.

After church we grilled hot dogs and hamburgers for everybody–well, Michael did. On Friday, Jerry had bought a chef hat, had our church logo stitched on, and surprised Michael with it as he prepared to cook.

Recall that Michael is our son who for over 25 years was out of the church, but now is totally immersed in the work of God. I am forever thankful!

Last night was our 9th or 10th Tuesday night Bible study, and we had 10 adults there! Several are wonderful young men who are hungry for more of the Word of God. God’s presence is so real in our services–palpable and distinct.

So, it’s onward and upward for the Buxtons here in Lake Havasu, where God has been incredibly good, and has shown Himself strong and powerful. Thank you for your kind words of support…and for your prayers. Don’t stop praying for us.

Still full of life and ready to be on the move, Shirley at 84 years old feels blessed to have lots of energy and to be full of optimism. She was married to Jerry for 63 years, and grieves yet at his death in August of 2019. They have 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren...all beautiful and highly intelligent--of course. :)

There you are Aisha…it is wonderful to hear from you on my blog. I’ve received the pictures of the boys you sent by email, but I have not been able to respond. Things are definitely getting better in that area.

I do hope Joel (and you and the boys if you are with him) will swing by and see us when you’re over this way. Please let us know. We will be attending the Arizona District conference during the latter part of next week.

Love you and those beautiful boys.

Hi everybody. We’re making progress with our internet service—still don’t have it in the motorhome, but it is quite stable in the recreation room now. Patrick Garrett installed a new router. Yes!

Of course I remember you, Anna—with great fondness. Everybody come by Lake Havasu and pay us a visit!

Love,

Shirley

Hi Sis. Buxton,

I’ve called y’all Granny and Pappy a couple of times with great love. Although, it has been a while since I have seen you, so don’t know if you remember me or not. I am not quite sure how I stumbled upon your blog, but am excited to hear about the great work that God is doing through you precious people. The Buxton family has impacted my life in ways that only eternity will tell.

Love,
Anna Elder

Another great report. How Awesome is our God!!! Hey, I wonder if Layne and I are related? Her name is spelled just like my maiden name with the “y” in there, which is unusual. Anyway, keep up the good work.

I feel tears in my eyes as I am reading your beautiful posts. I don’t think you are being boastful at all. I know you are not that way. I am so thrilled and thankful for what God is doing in your midst! I had been wondering how your first Easter service went, and now my heart feels full to know that God is moving in your midst on hearts. A good report makes the bones fat, and right now, I feel fat…in a good way! Thank you so much for sharing what God is doing. Love and Prayers,
Karen
