For several months after his tragic accident in 1994, Jerry was bound to a wheelchair—first it was an electric one, then he graduated to a manual wheelchair…then, and we will always be thankful, to crutches, a walker…and finally, nothing! So, we know first hand how limiting it is to depend on a wheelchair, and we have friends who still must use a wheel chair. No matter how determined a person is, a regular wheelchair has lots of limitations. Look at this, though! An off-road wheelchair. The news of this exciting advancement comes from Gizmodo.
Rugged Wheelchair Lets Disabled Go Off-road
It may look like some oversized BattleBot, but the Tank Chair is a rugged, off-road wheelchair that lets anybody with leg injuries “get back to nature.” Each chair is custom built and can take on any type of terrain. There’s no word on pricing, but any wheelchair that looks this cool has got to be worth the splurge. Hit the jump for some extra shots.

There are whole variety of hi-tech electric wheelchairs… Like one from iBot that can walk the stairs… But even more interesting are new Toyota’s personal transporter devices that no longer look like wheelchair, but rather like a humanoid device… Interesting where technology moves us today…

Think about it, though, Tommyjoe. People with all kinds of personalities have accidents or are born with certain limitations. This must be great for them.

This looks like it’s for those “militant types.” I guess you’d have to love adventure to get out in something like this. What a novel idea!

Wow that is really neat. I think that would be exciting if you’ve been in a regular wheel chair for years to be able to get out in nature like that again. Cool!
